Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to my GB blog, Lattes and Libraries!

If you didn’t gather from my blog name, I’m a coffee addict. Like, I-have-to-limit-myself-to-two-cups-a-day addict. I’m seeking help.

I’m a freshman at Faulkner University and majoring in English (yes, I’m one of those people. You’ve been warned). Ever since I was young, I’ve written stories. Cliché stories about a group of neighborhood kids and their treehouse club, cutesy stories about dogs and cats, and even comical stories about a kid detective.

As I grew older, my writing switched from stories from a child’s perspective to blogging (you can find my other blog at madelynvictoriablog.com) and writing about real life topics. Without noticing, writing became a huge part of my life. Up until two years ago, “what I wanted to be when I grew up” was a nurse. Somewhere along the way, I became more unsure about that career path and with a shock (and great relief), I realized I wanted to be a writer instead. After this, finding a college I wanted to attend was easy (well, as easy as possible when college is concerned). Faulkner’s English program, Christian emphasis, and amazing students drew me in, and I haven’t looked back since.

If I’m not writing, I’m watching cheesy Hallmark movies, reading anything I can find, hiking with my friends and family, or stuffing my face with chocolate cake.

Thank you for reading! I’m looking forward to beginning this Great Books journey with you all!

  1. Hi Madelyn! I am also addicted to coffee! I am very excited to be in the GB program with you. How did you get started with writing when you were younger?

    1. Hey, Rachel! I cannot remember exactly how I got started writing...Often, I found myself writing when I was bored, whenever a new idea popped into my head, and just for fun. I remember waking up in the middle of the night when I was eight or nine years old and scribbling down thoughts about a new book idea. Thanks for asking!

  2. Hey Madelyn! I don't think I exactly understand the whole hype around drinking coffee BUT I can guess I can look past that for the sake of our friendship. I am so excited to be in Great Books with you and I can't wait to get to know you better. I never would have pinned you as an english major from the few times we've actually talked but now that I'm thinking about it more I can totally see it. So to sum this up, I'll ask a few questions. What got you to start writing? What's your favorite book? What is your favorite genre? I'm so glad I got to meet you and that we'll be in the same Great Books class this semester.
